Forced draft assist flare


Forced draft assist flare is mainly applied to handle common hydrocarbon flare gas in petrochemical, chemical and natural gas enterprises lack of steam supply.

The basic principle of forced draft assist flare is to force the draft to the flare tip via a vertical tube by the air blower arranged on the ground so as to provide sufficient air for combustion process and thus contribute to prevent black smoke, maintain stable flame shape and extend the service life.

Forced draft assist flare can be used both in elevated flare system and ground flare system.



 

  • LNG flare burner usually use porous diffusion burner (flare tip). Multiple tiny pores can separate flare gas into numerous airflow at the exit of burner (flare tip), so that the contact area between flare gas and air can be increased. In case of large flare gas flow, such as under the design load, high flare gas speed at the flare tip exit can improve the mixing process of flare gas & air. Moreover, the max. exit speed of flare gas is controlled to certain extent so as to satisfy the noise requirement at the ground level. In case of small flare gas flow, the flare gas speed at burner (flare tip) exit is low, which is unfavorable for the mixing process of flare gas and air. Black smoke will occur if additional smokeless means is not used. In this case, forced draft is provided by air blower to deliver air into flame zone. Higher air speed around the exit of flare tip resulting from the forced draft can strengthen the mixing effect of air and flare gas, prevent the formation of black smoke and thus satisfy the smokeless requirements.

      1. Typical case600,000T/y LNG utility localization project of Shandong Tai’an


    In the 600,000T/y LNG utility localization project built at Tai’an, Shandong province, the flare system is mainly used to collect & handle the vent gas under emergency and operating condition.

    The flare system consists of a hot flare and a cold flare on one common derrick support,with 110M high. The cold flare is provided with forced draft by air blower to eliminate black smoke.

      2. Typical case: Propane tank project of Vopak Bohai (Tianjin)


    Vopak Bohai PetroChemical (Tianjin) Storage Co. Ltd requires a set of ground flare system for Phase II project (Propane Tank). This project lacks steam supply, so the ground flare system adopts forced draft by air blower.

    This is the first ground flare system with air assist in China. It has been running well ever since it was put into operation in 2009 and the emission satisfies national environment requirements.
